Mass Spectrometry Technology Empowers Multi-omics Profiling of Complex Biological Systems.
Research Experience
Before starting graduate study, I was working on two different projects-screening proteins in Murine Herpesvirus and the effect of drugs on and related biomarkers in Caenorhabditis elegans. Gradually, I realized the power of mass spectrometry in biological discovery for its ability to offer massive information of a given system. Also, a physics minor provides me with another perspective into biological phenomena and mechanisms.

UW-Madison is one of the best research universities in the world with a long history and a great reputation, especially for its natural science study. And the Coon lab is the best lab for MS research. Before rotation, I never imagined I would be a member of the Coon lab. During the rotation, however, I found this is what I had been looking for. The Coon lab is highly productive and has an extensive collaboration with academia and industry. And everyone here is nice and willing to help each other. I super like it here!
Currently Working On
The project I’m currently working on concerns metabolomics of infant feces. The metabolites as well as lipids of feces of healthy infants differ from those of infants with allergic diseases, which could be potential biomarkers and even drug targets. It is an interesting and useful research, which contributes to our collaborations and clinical study. And it is also a great starter project that helps me grasp the skill of analysis and instrumentation.
