What brought you to the Coon lab?
When I came to visit UW-Madison for my visitation week, I was impressed by the high degree of collaboration that occurred in the department, and how friendly all of the faculty and graduate students were. The university has many impressive groups conducting cutting-edge research. Of these groups the Coon lab was unique as it offered a large variety of research opportunities in areas such as metabolomics, proteomics, and instrumentation. The diversity of these projects was demonstrated throughout my rotation and sparked my interest for joining the group.

And what did your work at the Coon lab entail?
As an undergraduate at Western Michigan University, I conducted research in an inorganic chemistry lab where I synthesized novel ligands and inorganic complexes. During the final year of my undergraduate career, I was accepted to participate in an internship at Pfizer, which ultimately cemented my interest in the analytical chemistry. At Pfizer I was tasked with identifying impurities and method optimization for a variety of drug products through a number of analytical techniques. Through this experience I learned the power of analytical techniques and their ability to help solve real world problems.
