Title of PhD dissertation
Investigating the Biology and Genetic Basis of Stress Adaptation in Cryptococcus neoformans
Research Focus
I became interested in fungal pathogens after attending a seminar about cellular biology and microscopic examination of the rice blast pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae. I ended up pursuing a PhD studying genetics of the fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans at the University of Georgia, where there is a large fungal biology group. We understand a lot about the genetics of major fungal pathogens, but not much about how genetic variation leads to changes in pathogenesis or resistance to antifungal treatments. I am interested in studying proteomics and metabolomics to bridge this gap.
