Alexander Makarov – Director of Research for Global Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry at Thermo Fisher Scientific – visited our laboratory this week. Alexander met with staff and students to discuss their research. The highlight of the visit was a question and answer session where he explained the development of the Orbitrap. Students got a first-hand lesson from Alexander about the many times during the long development of the current commercial device that the project was in jeopardy of being terminated.
